I woke up this morning to my Twitter feed buzzing with trending Will Smith memes, Gifs and full-on rants about his infamous Chris Rock Oscar slap. I instantly felt sick. I had flashbacks of my childhood.

Growing up, violence was always the answer. My parents would punish us with belt whips, my friends would react with slaps and kicks, it was a lifestyle.

Will Smith jumped on stage on the night he won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in King Richard where he played Richard Williams the father of Tennis players Serena and Venus Williams. Will infamously slapped comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about anticipating a GI Jane 2 movie, an apparent dig at Will Smith’s wife Jada’s shaved head.
