Messiah Jacobs: The Black Hollywood Producer on a Mission To Bring Diversity and Inclusion to The Film Industry
Messiah Jacobs is making a point of using film to convey black stories and to bring diversity and inclusion to the movie industry
Messiah Jacobs is a prolific Los-Angeles-based film producer. Over a 20 year span, Jacobs has played a significant role in producing and developing content celebrating black culture. He has produced films starring Tiffany Haddish, Billy Dee Williams, Vivica Fox, and Robert Townsend.
Jacobs is the CEO of Four Screens a full-service production and management company based in Los-Angeles, California.
When speaking about the company Jacobs said:
“It isn’t enough to make diverse content, we must change the way deals are financed, greenlit, constructed and how under-represented talent is managed,” Jacobs says. “Black talent in front of the screen is not always being managed and represented by entities with the same goals of inclusion and diversity in mind.”
“The social uprisings of the BLM movement made people finally start seeing the inequalities in Hollywood,” continues Jacobs. “When you look at under-represented talent, you do not see strong African American management companies in Hollywood. We are doing just that.”
Four Screens are responsible for managing the Estate of the Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the late Wu-Tang Clan member who passed away in 2004. Four Screens is responsible for producing Amazon’s documentary on Ol’Dirty Bastard and Hulu's Wu-Tang: American Saga.
Jacobs's sole mission for 2021 and beyond is to continue to push for diversity and inclusion in Hollywood.
Four Screens are currently working on a Black superhero animation project starring a diverse group of characters. An Ol’ Dirty Bastard biopic is also in the works.
The production and management company are also developing and expanding its list of diverse directors, recently signing two award-winning black directors, Addison Henderson, winner of the 2020 American Black Film Festival Best Screenplay award for his feature film Givers of Death. Also, Abdul Malik Abbott, most commonly known for directing State Property starring Jay Z.
Four Screens is currently looking for a diverse group of creatives to join their team. Writers, directors, and other industry experts who are interested in building a diverse, more inclusive Hollywood.
